A graphic novel in progress.
Set in Europe during the end of the last ice age, a young artist attempts to break the bonds of tradition and superstition to lift a curse placed on her at birth.

Hi, I’m Ray! I’m a cartoonist from Southern Vermont. My comics range from autobio to fantasy, but my one true love is prehistorical fiction. I’m currently working on my first graphic novel which is about a young artist who lived in Europe during the end of the last ice age.
I love telling stories about prehistoric people with relatable themes about friendship and learning to believe in yourself. My artwork is primarily black and white with beautiful brush strokes and strong spot blacks which is a perfect compliment to the time periods I enjoy studying and writing about.
I feel a particular kinship with early modern humans who made cave paintings and other tangible artwork. I spend a lot of time reading about what they left behind and imagining what they were like. Their lives were a constant struggle for survival, but they still found a place for art and storytelling. They were, in a way, the first cartoonists!
I hope my work will inspire curiosity about our origins and give an imaginative look into what life might have been like in the ancient past.
I'm currently pursuing a BA in anthropology and I'm excited to apply what I learn to future comic projects!
My pronouns are they/them.
Thank you for your support!

What tools/materials do you use?
My work is 100% digital! I work in Clip Studio Paint EX on an iPad Pro.
What happened to Nonesuch Garden and the Nonesuch Dolls?
I can no longer hand sew due to a repetitive stress injury so I had to retire my art dolls.
Is there a pattern book?
Unfortunately, no. I had planned to release one, but I have since moved on to other projects.
Can I make dolls inspired by the Nonesuch Dolls? Can I sell them?
You may make/sell dolls inspired by my work that are handmade by you if you credit me as the designer. A simple "design inspired by Nonesuch Garden" is sufficient. In other words, as long as you don't mass/factory produce my designs and you give me proper credit you have my blessing. These dolls were my life for over a decade and they still mean a lot to me. Please have the kindness to credit me for my hard work. Thank you!!
What about the Sproutlings?
Please do not make/sell dolls inspired by my Sproutlings. They are very personal.
